Coming Soon to a Community Near You... and I Can't Wait!

People who know me know that I love technology!

But nothing compares to having the opportunity to connect in person with friends, colleagues and partners. That's why I am counting down the sleeps until CLN rolls out our face-to-face training on the CALP Portal later this spring, bringing together the best of both worlds.

CLN will be hosting eight training sessions in the coming months, and I will have the privilege of visiting communities throughout the province, from Fort McMurray to Lethbridge. All 130 CALP-funded organizations are invited to participate. Be sure to keep an eye out for messages from your Regional Support Staff in the coming weeks with details about when and where the training will take place in your region.

Since CLN launched the CALP Portal last October, we’ve been continuing to work hard to improve the site to meet your needs. We’ve been listening to your feedback to figure out what’s working and what could be improved, what would make it your go-to site for all things CALP, and what kinds of features and functionality you would like to see streamlined or added.

As a result, we’ve been making some changes and adding some groovy new features.

Here are a couple of new features you might not have noticed:

Like this item – We heard from you that you like the ability to comment on posts, and to rate resources, but sometimes you just want to “like” something to let the author know.

Now you can! When you are logged in to your CALP Portal account, you will see a button that lets you “like” content with just one click.

Save this search – Sometimes you search for Resources, and love the results so much that you want to be able to come back later to the same list of results.

Now you can! – Every time you do a search, you will see a button above the list of matched results that will let you save the search.

You can give the list a name that makes sense to you, and next time you log back in, simply click on your “saved search”.

Better editing options for your posts – How could we have overlooked giving you a hyperlink function when you are posting comments? But it seems we did, and you wanted to share links and email contact info.

Now you can! Just look for this symbol in your text editor. All you have to do is select the text you want to link, hit this button and paste in the live link.

Over the next few weeks, we will be rolling out even more features, including:

  • An e-learning module, which will feature the CLN’s first venture in customized micro-learning, an online workshop on Outcomes-based Measurement and Evaluation, developed especially for the CALP community
  • A special “micro-site” for the Training Institute, with all the event information and online registration, followed by a Literacy and Learning Symposium site later this spring
  • Personalized learning plans for every user, where you can track your own learning goals, and record your participation in CALP training and professional development

So as you can see, we’ll have lots to explore when we bring CALP Portal training to your region. I’m also looking forward to hearing more from you about how we can continue to improve the Portal to support you in your work. I hope you will be able to join us when we come to your neck of the woods!
