The Literacy & Learning Symposium is an annual province-wide professional development event for Community Adult Learning Program literacy and foundational learning practitioners, partners and other community learning system stakeholders.
We are currently accepting proposals from presenters with knowledge, skills and wisdom to share. Our goal is to create a program that includes a variety of high quality, interactive learning sessions, delivered through creative and innovative methods to engage, strengthen and support the CALP system.
The deadline to submit your proposal is Tuesday, December 4th, 2018, no later than 4:30 pm.
We are building a program that will include sessions and presentations from September 24th, 2019 to September 27th, 2019, between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm. The conference program will be a combination of full-day, half-day and 80-90 minute breakout sessions.
Key program threads include:
Literacy and Foundational Learning
CALP Programs and Activities
CALP Staff and Volunteer Development
To be considered, sessions must be interactive learning formats and must have clear learning objectives. Session participants should walk away with knowledge of a tool, strategy or tactic that will enhance their ability to support adult learners.
Presenters will be asked to answer three questions to identify the session's learning objectives:
The answers you provide will be included in the published program information to help our Symposium delegates choose the sessions that will meet their individual professional learning needs.
Please be sure to review the submission guidelines and preview the online submission form before you complete your proposal. You will have approximately one hour to complete the form. Please ensure you have all the required information ready before you begin your submission.
Complete the “Call for Presenters” proposal online form and submit by Tuesday, December 4th, 2018.
Only complete submissions will be considered.
Your proposal must include:
The information you provide will be included in the published program agenda to help our Symposium delegates choose the sessions that will meet their individual professional learning needs.
Interactive Learning Session: These sessions focus on a single topic or program area and are designed to be interactive, and engage participants in collaborative, hands-on active learning associated with the topic. Ideally, participants will have an open discussion with an experienced expert. Must include interactive activities as a major portion of their overall session. Not intended as a lecture.
Sessions will be a combination of full-day (6 hours), half-day (3 hours) and 80-90 minute breakout sessions.
An LCD projector, a screen and a flipchart will be provided in breakout session rooms. Presenters must supply their own laptop and/or speakers, as well as any other presentation devices needed during the session.
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel is providing complimentary Internet access during the Symposium.
Other audio-visual equipment can be ordered at the presenter’s expense (e.g., laptop, wireless mouse, additional flipchats, etc.)
Notification of acceptance/non-acceptance will be e-mailed to all lead presenters by January 25, 2019. Please ensure that your profile includes a valid e-mail and daytime phone number. Selected presenters will be provided with a package including a contract, the date and time of their session, and other pertinent details.
Lead presenters are responsible for notifying all co-presenters about presentation status and scheduling information.
After the session is accepted for presentation, presenters are responsible for notifying Pat Halewich, Events Specialist, Community Learning Network by email at firstname.lastname@example.org as early as possible and prior to the Literacy & Learning Symposium if for unforeseen circumstances they are unable to present.
Substitution of presenters must be approved by the Symposium Planning Committee. The Committee reserves the right to cancel the session, and/or assign it to another available presenter.
Accepted presenters and co-presenters are required to register for the Symposium if interested in attending as a participant. Those presenters only coming for their session and not attending any other part of the Symposium will not be required to pay.
