Poster Presentation and Banner Display Guidelines

Poster Presentations and Banner Displays: Information & Guidelines

General Submission Guidelines

  • Clearly outline your poster presentation.
  • CALPs may also choose to bring their organization's stand-up banner to display.
  • You may have up to two presenters per poster presentation or banner display.
  • You can submit more than one poster or banner display. You will need to submit different applications for each topic you would like to present.

Poster or Banner Content

Posters or banners must present information related to CALPs. Our review committee will evaluate your poster abstract or banner display based on:

  • Relevance and timeliness in terms of adult literacy and foundational learning
  • Substance and clarity of content
  • Specificity and practicality
  • Clarity of writing and presentation

Poster Size & Format

  • The hard copy posters will be displayed on easels (one easel per poster will be provided on-site).
  • Based on the display space, the maximum size for posters will be 48” w x 36” h (such as a standard trifold poster board) and the minimum size is 20” w x 30” h (standard poster board).
  • Posters must be mounted on sturdy material (such as a poster board or foam core).
  • Photocopying and materials to make the poster will be the presenter's responsibility.
  • CALPs may also choose to bring their organization's stand-up banner to display.

Note: The poster or banner is the only space that you will have to share your story and materials. No additional table space is available for handouts, flyers or cards. Power outlets will not be available in the display areas.

Poster Design Considerations

  • Use large, uncomplicated fonts. Title should be legible from at least 5-6 feet away. Text should be legible from 1-2 feet away.
  • Convey your information with colorful images and figures.
  • Balance your text and images. Directions to websites are also encouraged.
  • Think of reader “gravity”—how the viewer’s eye tends to move from top to bottom and from left to right—and incorporate that flow into your design.
  • Use headings, numbers, white space, or color frames to organize the information.
  • Avoid the common mistake of including too much information. Additional information can be included in handouts or on the websites.

Presenters

To present your poster or banner at the Literacy & Learning Symposium, you must:

  • Be a registered attendee of the Symposium. Registration fees are not waived for poster or banner display presenters. All poster or banner display presenters are responsible for paying their own travel expenses.
  • Print and transport all of your own materials, including your poster board or banner display and any handouts to support your presentation.
  • Submit a digital copy your final poster or banner display in PDF to events@calp.ca no later than Friday, September 6, 2019.
