A CALP Guide to the Math Maze

A CALP Guide to the Math Maze

Let’s face it, most of us have struggled with math at some point in our lives. I know I still do! And, just like I do, sometimes learners need a little numeracy guidance from time to time.

Learners often come to CALP when they need help with math. Sometimes it’s for CAEC prep, sometimes it’s kitchen math, and sometimes it’s budgeting basics. Whatever the reason, CALPs are well-positioned to help. CALP staff and volunteers offer classes and tutoring to walk alongside learners as they navigate the math maze.

Need a little help navigating the maze yourself? Check out some of these great, Canadian numeracy resources:

Foundational Adult Learning Portal (FALP)

FALP is an online portal created by Medicine Hat Pathways CALP. It was created to help adult learners assess their foundational learning skills and access online learning modules.

To support adult learning in Alberta with simple online tools and resources:

  • check-ins (assessments) show what learners know and wheRE they could improve.
  • learning modules help learners build skills at their own pace.

  • a learner and facilitator guide

There is also a placement test and some modules have extra practice worksheets.
