Police and Other Information Checks – These are a way for you to have done your due diligence and take a step-in reducing risk. It is also a requirement for most funders and many insurance providers.

Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector search – all volunteers
- These can be requested from your local police detachment (RCMP or municipal police force)
- There is a fee, but you can use Volunteer Alberta’s “Volunteer Screening Program” to waive the fee for your volunteers.
Child Intervention Record Check – for volunteers working in programs with children
- Provided by the Government of Alberta, these are free of charge.
- Contact your local Children Services office to get forms
- Forms may be mailed in or dropped off at a Children Services office – two pieces of ID are needed, one with a photo.
Activity – Develop your volunteer information session or interview by using the tools provided in the Screening and Selection section of the e-Learning (Pre-screening, Application Forms, Interviews, References, Police and Other Information Checks). Practice with someone:
- In your office
- Friend or family
- CALP colleague (online or over the phone)
