CALP Policy
As you plan your CALP programs, refer to the CALP Policy Manual. Here are a few of the requirements to be aware of:
The categories under Literacy and Foundational Learning (LFL) are:
- Adult Literacy
- Numeracy
- Basic Digital Skills
- Skills for Learning
- English Language Learning
Your CALP needs to identify which specific foundational skill(s) you want each learning opportunity to focus on (primary intended learning objective or PILO).
There are four modes of delivery that can be used to meet adult learner needs:
- Tutoring
- Courses
- Learning Activities
- Family Literacy Programs
CALP-funded organizations are required to offer programs in the approved programming areas (Literacy and Foundational Learning or Community Capacity Building).
- Programs need to include multiple sessions over a number of weeks
- Those attending programs should be foundational learners
- Programs can provide supports to those attending to reduce barriers. For example:
- Transportation vouchers
- Child-minding
- Reduce/waive fees
Here's a short video about LFL Provincial Park, which provides a visual explanation of how different modes of delivery can be used to reach adult's specific learning goals in areas of literacy and foundational learning:
