Required Programming
The CALP Policy Manual outlines five categories in Required Programming. These Literacy and Foundational Learning (LFL) categories focus on foundational skills:
- Adult Literacy
- Numeracy
- Basic Digital Skills
- Skills for Learning
- English Language Learning
There are four modes of delivery that can be used to meet adult learner needs:
- Tutoring
- Courses
- Learning Activities
- Family Literacy Programs
Learning opportunities can be offered:
- In person
- Online
- Blended or hybrid
Required Programming must be facilitated and include explicit skills instruction.
Explicit instruction is a teaching approach where the instructor explains and demonstrates a skill first, then practices it with learners, before learners try it independently ("I do, we do, you do"). This method guides learners from little or no knowledge to independence.
