Introduction
Welcome to the Instructional Strategies for Reading e-Learning
The topics in this e-Learning are:
- Basic components of reading
- Combine meaning and decoding
- Reading practice
- 3 explicit strategies for teaching reading:
- RAP: Comprehension strategy
- Onset Rime Blending: Decoding strategy
- Context Analysis: Blends comprehension and decoding
There are four videos – one video to introduce general concepts about reading, and three videos for each of the explicit reading strategies. There is also a handout that goes with the e-Learning content.
The handout is in colour or black and white. Most of the content is included in the videos, but you may want to print it to follow along with the video, if that is your learning style. After each reading strategy video, you will be prompted to come up with some reading practice activities for learners. You can either write down your ideas on the handout or jot your own notes.
- You can view the Instructional Strategies for Reading handout (colour) here.
- You can view the Instructional Strategies for Reading handout (black and white) here.
Download and save the handout for future reference. Or use it when discussing reading strategies with instructors and tutors.
Take the handout with you when you meet learners. It’s a great reference for reading strategies. Share it with others. And review this e-Learning as often as you like.
Happy learning!
