The Size and Scope of Literacy in Canada

A graphic showing a statistical picture of literacy in Canada. There is a map of Canada and Alberta is highlighted in yellow.

What this means, according to Statistics Canada and the OECD, adults in today’s society need to be at least at literacy skill level 3 (on a scale of 5 levels) to be able to participate fully in society.

We have to ask: “What does this really mean to those we are talking about?” And, what does it mean for our field of adult literacy?

THIS image IS BUT THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG. We need to ask what this really means to our learners and our society.
