During this 3 day training, you will learn how to facilitate the Aboriginal Literacy and Parenting Skills (A-LAPS) program.
A-LAPS is an innovative family literacy program designed to assist parents in building their literacy and parenting skills. This program is intended for Aboriginal parents and celebrates tradition while exploring new parenting and learning strategies. This program is designed with culturally specific materials for Aboriginal communities, incorporating important Aboriginal cultural teachings such as storytelling by beginning each session with a story that is developed from oral practices.
The A-LAPS program includes sessions on: Ages & Stages, Building Self-Esteem in Our Children, Listening Skills, Positive Discipline, Conflict Management, Families as Teams, and more.
Learn How To:
- Navigate and incorporate A-LAPS into your agency’s programming
- Assess community and client needs ? Develop literacy instructional techniques
- Incorporate strategies for cross-cultural facilitation ? Facilitate parent education methods
