Morning: We tend to focus on the behaviours, but we can't do that until we understand why it's happening. Join us as we learn about how the brain works and how stress and mental illness affects its' development. We will look at where mental illness problems come from - environment, nutrition, hereditary, etc. - how are they manifested and how that affects people.
Afternoon: How do we fix this? We will look at some tips, tricks and tools that will help us work with people who have mental health issues. Topics will include: treatment, education, helping them deal with their challenges, and helping them to improve their literacy skills.
This presentation is by Jackson Heraid (presented at 2017 Symposium), a registered nurse and EMT who has worked in emergency services, mental health crisis response, addiction services, public education and community health for 10+ years. He is currently the Community Initiatives Manger for Maskwacis Ambulance Authority, as well as Mental Health Therapist for Alberta Health Services.
