Introduction to Adult Foundational Learning (Online)

This training aligns with the Government of Alberta Community Adult Learning Program (CALP) Guidelines, and is intended to give CALP-funded practitioners fundamental knowledge for supporting adult foundational learners in communities across Alberta.

Introduction to Adult Foundational Learning explores strategies for creating meaningful learning experiences for adults in CALP-funded programs. Participants will come away with practical strategies and resources to start using right away.

This training will also provide the opportunity for new and seasoned CALP-funded practitioners alike to participate in a collaborative learning environment, which fosters building and strengthening CALP communities of practice.

Dates: May 5, 12, 19, 26, and June 2, 2021

Time: 10:00 - 11:15 AM

NOTE: Attendance at all of the Zoom sessions and completion of Self-Study is required within the 5 weeks to receive a certificate.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate foundational knowledge in Adult Literacy and Foundational Learning
  • Identify and practice collaborative learning strategies for adult foundational learners
  • Access credible tools and resources for adult foundational learners 

The online training will include Five Zoom session (75 minutes each) alternating with Four Self-Study sections (90 minutes each) held over 5-weeks for a total of 13 hours of training.

You are expected to participate in all Zoom sessions and complete the self-study assignments within the 5-week time period.

Each participant will need their own Portal account to participate in the training cohort, and to access the Zoom links and self-study assignments.

Coffee Hour

Join CLN and your fellow participants for a follow-up session to network, discuss ideas and topics related to the training and share promising practices for your role in CALP.
