Introduction to Family Literacy

 Dates: March 13 & 14, 2017

Times: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm (both days)  

Introduction to Family Literacy is a certificate training developed by the Centre for Family Literacy. This 2-day training provides participants with a basic understanding of the role of literacy in the life of children, their parents and the community. Topics that will be explored include the following:

  • A short history of literacy
  • How literacy is perceived today
  • Adult literacy
  • Family Literacy
  • The role of oral language in children’s literacy development
  • Emergent (early) literacy development
  • The role of environmental print in emergent literacy development
  • Parental role in emergent literacy development


The training provides participants with many opportunities to be actively involved in examining and developing strategies to support family literacy activities. 

Fees (includes materials, snacks and lunch):


CALP staff, First Nations Colleges and CCI staff: $75.00
Other Organizations: $150.00

Registration Deadline: February 27, 2017 (A minimum of 8 people is required to run this training.)

Cancellations up to two weeks prior to the event are eligible for a full refund.

Cancellations later than two weeks prior to the event are eligible for a credit to be applied to another training opportunity coordinated by the Community Learning Network within the current fiscal period (July 1st to June 30th).
