Presentation Description: In this hands-on workshop, Cleo will provide an overview of the Library and Archives Canada’s Indigenous initiatives. Her presentation will include how Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is committed to playing a significant role in reconciliation between the Government of Canada and Indigenous peoples. You will hear about how LAC is connected to the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action.

Presenter Biography: Cleo Big Eagle is Nakoda originally from White Bear First Nation and a band member of Ocean Man First Nation. She currently is the Advisor on Indigenous Engagement and Partnerships in the Office of the Chief Operating Officer at Library and Archives Canada. Previously she was at Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada as a Policy and Program Advisor working on First Nations Education Partnerships. She also worked with the Secretariat on the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Pre-Inquiry Engagement Sessions. Prior to this her work was as a Resolution Manager with the Indian Residential Schools Hearings Independent Assessment Process. Cleo is currently enrolled in graduate studies at Carleton University’s Indigenous Policy and Administration Program.

Presentation Description: In her presentation, Beth will provide an overview of Project Naming and the various strategies that LAC has engaged with communities. She will also discuss the challenges of researching archival records. Presenter Biography: Beth Greenhorn has an M.A. in Canadian Art History from Carleton University in Ottawa. After graduating in 1996, she worked for in the Canadian Art Division at the National Gallery of Canada. In 2003, she joined the National Archives of Canada, now Library and Archives Canada (LAC), where she curated web exhibitions and led web-based projects. Since 2003, she has managed Project Naming, a nationally and internationally recognized community-based project involving Indigenous people in Canada. In February 2016, she curated the exhibition, Hiding in Plain Sight: Discovering the Métis Nation in the Collections of Library and Archives Canada. In June 2016, she launched LAC’s first crowdsourcing initiative with the “Coltman Report”.
