We all know the frustration of not being able to connect with a learner during a class or a tutor session due to emotional or physical barriers. As part of our changing global community, we are seeing increases in the number of learners coming from challenging or traumatizing backgrounds—backgrounds that have an undeniable emotional impact on their readiness to learn. Our PTSD & Trauma in the Classroom workshops, facilitated by Karin Linschoten, Clinical Director for Health and Wellbeing for Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers and an immigrant herself, will help you begin to better understand and respond to those in your classroom who may be suffering from PTSD and Trauma. Over the two half-day sessions, you will be given an insight into the needs of your newcomer learners, and the tools to recognize the effects that trauma may have on their ability to learn.
