Literacy and Parenting Skills (LAPS) Facilitator Training

In this 2.5-day experiential interactive workshop, you will learn how to deliver the LAPS programs. LAPS is an innovative family literacy program designed to help parents build their literacy and parenting skills.

Trainers: Pamela Lamb, Further Education Society of Alberta & Tanis Harms, Community Learning Network

Learning Objectives:

Participants will learn strategies for working with low-literate parents and starting a family literacy program in their communities.
Participants will learn about the LAPS curricula and how to incorporate it into their family literacy programs
Participants will learn the philosophy behind the LAPS programs and learn how to work more effectively with foundational learners.

Intended Audience: Community Adult Learning Program (CALP) Staff, Adult Literacy Practitioner, Family Literacy Practitioner

Dates/Times: October 16 & 17, 2017 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm & October 18 from 9:00 am - 12:00 noon

Fee: $125.00 / person for CALP, First Nations College or CCI Staff; $250 / person for All Others

Registration includes: LAPS manual

Lunch and snacks will be provided on the first 2 days and snacks will be provided on the third day (lunch on your own).

Deadline to register: Monday, October 2, 2017. (A Minimum of 8 participants is required to run this training.)

Cancellation and Refund Guideline/Procedure:

If you are unable to attend a training event, you must notify Community Learning Network via email of all cancellations prior to the first day of the training. Non-attendance does not constitute notice of withdrawal.

If Notice of Cancellation is given 10 or more business days before the training event, the registration fee is eligible for a refund, less a $25.00 administrative fee.

If Notice of Cancellation is given fewer than 10 business days before the first day of the training event, the registration fee is nonrefundable.
