On Campus with Rural Routes

Join the Rural Routes Team of Advisors for an action-packed, hands-on day of learning and networking at NorQuest’s beautiful Main Campus in downtown Edmonton. You will not only learn, you will take away great resources for your programs, your learners and tutors.   This face-to-face opportunity is free (lunch included).

Morning Sessions

Session 1:  Rural Routes and the Future:  Our collective hopes and dreams (Melissa Rothwell, Manager, Community Education) - Participate in an interactive round-table discussion with fellow stakeholders about our common vision for Rural Routes.

Session 2:  Tutoring Foundational Numeracy (Phil Switzer, CALP Liaison and GED Prep Instructor) - Learn to use the Numeracy modules effectively in one-on-one and small group settings with learners, and explore ways of using the module assessments as a learning tool.

 Afternoon Sessions

Session 3:   Building Critical Thinking in ELLs - Explore strategies for helping English language learners develop critical thinking skills through intentional communicative activities that also help expand their vocabulary and strengthen accuracy and fluency.

Session 4:   Orientation to Writing & Speaking Assessment - Learn how to use the Rural Routes CLB writing and speaking assessment tools and practice rating sample writing and speaking exemplars to enhance your skills in assessing English proficiency levels.
