The CALPs in Alberta are very diverse; a reflection of the communities we serve. The offerings at this training event are just as diverse.

August 30 – 31: Community Learning Network presents….. Introduction to Adult Foundational Learning

This two-day training workshop is intended to give CALP Practioners some of the tools, skills and knowledge that will help them be successful in their roles. Introduction to Adult Foundational Learning takes a hands-on approach to exploring how we can better support adult learners in our communities. Participants will come away with practical tools, tips and resources you can start using right away in your organisation.

August 30 – 31: Centre for Family Literacy presents….. Introduction to Family Literacy

Introduction to Family Literacy is a two day workshop that provides participants with a basic understanding of the role of literacy in the life of children, their parents and the community. The workshop provides participants with many opportunities to be actively involved in examining and developing strategies to support family literacy activities. A manual is provided to all participants.

August 30: Rural Routes presents….

Pragmatics (soft skills)
In this workshop, participants will learn what pragmatics is and how to incorporate pragmatics into their ESL classes. They will also be exposed to useful resources for teaching pragmatics.

Learning Styles and Strategies
This workshop presents strategies for identifying and supporting learners with visual, auditory and tactile learning styles. Participants will learn to plan lessons to incorporate all three styles.

August 31: Rural Routes presents….

An Integrated Approach to ESL and Family Literacy
The focus of this workshop is to give practioners more tools for their tool boxes by providing practical ideas and using real life experience/scenarios when working with ESL and mixed groups. Background information and resources will be provided on ESL and family literacy by discussing culture, traditions and best practices in both ESL and Family Literacy. This information will be helpful for those working with and supporting ESL families in programs. This workshop was developed in partnership with the Center for Family Literacy.

Orientation to Writing/Speaking Assessment Tool
This short workshop provides an orientation to CLB-based writing and speaking assessment tool that can help you determine appropriate CLB levels in order to place students, make instructional decisions, or determine whether students are ready to take a formal CLB assessment.

Note: Registration is not complete until payment has been received. All fees are non-refundable.
