Overview

CALP instructors and tutors will be introduced to instructor - and learner - friendly ways of teaching digital skills. Teaching step-by-step instructions is no longer practical or reliable with the rapid changes to digital devices, tools, and online spaces. Using a skills-based approach to instruction, participants will learn how to teach so learners gain confidence doing the everyday task they’ve come to CALP to learn (eg. downloading documents, online application forms, video calls).  They will leave the CALP program feeling capable of trying new things with different devices, in different contexts and navigating new online environments.

*Note: Teaching Digital Skills is the same training as Tech Talk. If you have previously taken Tech Talk training you will not need to retake this training.

Learning Outcomes

Participants in this training will learn to...

  • Understand how to use the skills-based approach to digital skills instruction
  • Use the core components of digital literacy (language, navigation, settings) and essential themes (connectivity, safety & security) to guide instruction
  • Recognize ways to incorporate the teaching strategies in a variety of learning environments, including digital skills courses or one-on-one coaching for everyday tasks
