Training - Building Blocks in Home Visitation Services

Building Blocks in Home Visitation Services

The purpose is to empower families by building their confidence and skills so that each member can actively participate in their own learning.

What is Building Blocks

Building Blocks is an in-home literacy program for families. Family Literacy Programs in Alberta can be funded through a variety of sources. Each source/funder has its funding criteria that will provide guidelines for individual programs. No matter where the funding comes from, all Building Blocks programs provide intentionally planned activities "to meet adult learners" needs and goals and promote the values and benefits of literacy for the entire family. Building Blocks allows adult learners to increase their own literacy and foundational skills, strengthening daily literacy activities for all family members.

What you will learn

Building Blocks Facilitator Training provides the framework, knowledge, and strategies facilitators need to deliver the Building Blocks training program to parents. Participants in this training will focus on the skills they need to help empower families to become active participants in their learning. Building Blocks is NOT a tutoring program for children. It is about working with the adults to meet their learning needs and to promote literacy interaction within the family that will continue after the facilitator leaves.

If you or your organization want to register for this training, please contact Barbara Moore Coffey. We can provide more information on hotel rates, send the registration form, and answer any other questions you might have. The cost is $350, which includes three days of training. Each day, breakfast, lunch, and morning/afternoon snacks will also be provided. Each participant will receive a manual along with a bag full of resources.
