Plant an amaryllis

Add some colour to your winter. Plant an amaryllis bulb in late fall. It will bloom in six to eight weeks.

Many stores sell amaryllis kits. Each kit has a bulb, a pot and soil.

Step 1

  • Put some soil into the pot.

Step 2

  • Put the bulb into the pot. Be careful. Don’t break the roots.

Step 3

  • Add soil around the bulb. Press the soil down firmly. Keep the top 1/3 of the bulb above the soil.

Step 4

  • Water well.

Step 5

  • Keep the pot near a window. Water lightly at first.
  • In four to six weeks, you will see one or two buds or leaves. They will grow fast.

Step 6

  • Now you can water the amaryllis more often. Soon it will bloom.
