Verbal Language

Verbal

This is the language related to what you read - the words or text used to describe the icons, symbols, structures, or tasks.

Verbal language can be complex and confusing. Often there are multiple words for saying and doing the same thing. Verbal digital language is not as transferable as visual language. For example: the word “desktop” could be applied in different ways, from the physical desk we are setting the digital system on, the digital system itself, a digital desktop where we can see the icons, or even the desktop folder.

[untitled]  The word "Zoom" on this icon is an example of verbal language. It describes the software.
