Prediction

Purpose:

Active readers use critical thinking, problem solving and background knowledge to predict what will happen next.

How:

  • Reader chooses a topic that is meaningful to them
  • Reader makes predictions about the story based on the title, cover image, text and visuals
  • Reader constantly checks those predictions as they read
  • Reader confirms that some predictions are correct and others are incorrect
  • Reader changes predictions and makes new predictions while continuing to read
