< Back to All Comprehension Strategies
R-A-P
Purpose:
Slows the reader down and asks them to think about what they are reading. If a reader can put the text into their own words, they understand it.
How:
- Read
- Ask yourself what it means
- Put it in your own words
- After the learner completes the strategy, ask them: "What questions do you still have about this reading?"
Note: Apply the RAP strategy to a paragraph, a few sentences, or even a single sentence. It breaks comprehension down into a series of steps to ensure understanding.
