A Message from Stephanie Brown,
CLN Board Director
CLN Board Director
The world is shifting so quickly, and we, as CALPs, are going to need to ensure that we are receiving the best professional development required to ensure we are delivering great programs within our communities.
One way to ensure this is to become involved with the CLN Board.
Do you see yourself wanting to become a voice for your region in having professional development that is relevant to your learning needs and the needs of the community?
The CLN Board is currently looking for new board members, and this is a great time to explore that passion in providing PD for CALPs.
If you answer "YES" to the following…
Qualifications to serve on the CLN Board of Directors:
- Member in Good Standing of the Community Learning Network
- Live and/or work in the Province of Alberta
- Understand the governance roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors
- Have at least two years of experience as staff or Board member with a Community Adult Learning Program (equivalencies will be considered)
- Have a background and an interest in adult learning in Alberta
Then, you may be a great fit for the Community Learning Network Board.

2026-2027 Membership Renewal
CLN membership renewal will be sent out by direct email to your organization's primary contact at each CALP, beginning April 1st.
Watch your email for the link to complete your CALP's renewal. In the meantime, you can get a head start by reviewing and updating your CALP's information in the Portal's online directory at https://calp.ca/find-a-calp-near-you.html
To keep your membership in good standing, confirm a few details about your CALP and provide up-to-date contact information for key staff.
A few things to keep in mind before you receive and fill out the renewal:
- If your organization receives a CALP grant directly from Advanced Education, you are automatically a member of the Community Learning Network
- There are NO membership fees or dues to pay
- Our membership year is aligned to the CALP grant cycle, from July 1st to June 30th
- Renewing your CALP's membership helps us ensure our records are current, so we can continue to keep you up to date about training and networking opportunities, new resources and supports, and other CALP news from across the province
The deadline to complete your membership renewal is Friday, April 25th.
If you have any questions, or if your CALP has not received the Membership Renewal form by April 10th, please contact Ellen Rodgers at office@calp.ca or call the provincial office at (1-877-485-4926) ext. 2

Literacy in Action
For the past few years ABC Life Literacy Canada has hosted Innovation Learning Labs with support from the Canada Life Literacy Innovation Award. The four different webinars focus on what is important and relevant to those working in the field of literacy and foundational learning.
The webinars are an hour long with the first three webinar topics listed below:
- Helping learners prepare for CAEC: Sharing what’s worked
Tuesday, April 21st at 11:00 am MDT - Helping learners navigate Canada’s technology driven economy
Tuesday, May 12th at 11:00 am MDT - Attracting and supporting reluctant learners in literacy programs
Tuesday, June 16th at 11:00 am MDT
The fourth webinar is an opportunity to hear about the organizations that received the Canada Life Literacy Innovation Award. Applications for the award opened on April 1, 2026.
- Learnings from the 2026 Canada Life Literacy Innovation Award winners
Thursday, October 8th at 11:00 am MDT
If you haven’t attended an Innovation Lab, I encourage you to check them out. I have attended several webinars and have learned what other organizations across the country are doing and about different ways to work with adult learners.

This Month's Spotlight
From April 19th to 25th, National Volunteer Week shines a spotlight on the contributions of 24 million volunteers across Canada. Volunteers are vital for many nonprofits, as they offer their time, skillsets, and passion to further their organization's vision.
The theme for National Volunteer Week 2026 is Ignite Volunteerism. Volunteer Canada describes the theme as "a year-long effort to elevate the role of civic participation, rebuild volunteer infrastructure, and celebrate volunteer stories."
Recognizing and celebrating volunteers' efforts during National Volunteer Week not only expresses gratitude, but also inspires others to strengthen community efforts.
Quote of the Day
As we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
- Marianne Williamson
