Agencies currently offering this program in partnership with the Centre for Family Literacy can have one free registration. Coffee, snack and materials will be provided. Please bring your own bagged lunch or there are a number of alternatives within walking distance (i.e. Wendy’s, Mr. Sub, Burger/Donair, Panda Express).

Books for Babies is a facilitated program that encourages parents and other caregivers to share books with babies starting in their first year. The program provides an opportunity for families with infants to meet each other and discuss topics related to their role in their childrens’ language and literacy development. Participating families receive a number of books, easy to read information and a sturdy book bag, Ways to enjoy books together are modeled and shared and tips for choosing age appropriate books are discussed.
Offered in partnership with other community agencies, participants benefit from a range of expertise and learn about the range of services and learning opportunities available to them. The program is hosted in accessible community spaces such as family resource centres, public health centres, and libraries, but can also be delivered to individual families within a home visitation framework. Books for Babies is a program delivered in partnership with community agencies that encourages parents to share books with their babies, starting in their first year. It is a four-week program delivered either through one-on-one contacts or in a group setting facilitated by various community partners, including parents from the program. The program is typically offered over 4 weeks, each session is about one hour in length, with a recommended group size of 10 – 15 families.
