Introduction to Family Literacy

Introduction to Family Literacy is a certificate training developed by the Centre for Family Literacy. This 2-day training provides participants with a basic understanding of the role of literacy in the life of children, their parents and the community. Topics that will be explored include the following:
- A short history of literacy
- How literacy is perceived today
- Adult literacy
- Family Literacy
- The role of oral language in children’s literacy development
- Emergent (early) literacy development
- The role of environmental print in emergent literacy development
- Parental role in emergent literacy development
The training provides participants with many opportunities to be actively involved in examining and developing strategies to support family literacy activities.
Registration Fees: $75.00/person CALP, First Nations College or CCI staff; $150.00/person Other Organizations
Registration includes training materials, lunch, light snacks and beverages.
Deadline to Register: Tuesday, April 4, 2017 (A Minimum of 8 people is required to run this training.)
