Bird-banding
Welcome to the bird observatory near Lesser Slave Lake!
How do workers catch and study the birds?
1. Workers set up special nets. They check the nets often.
2. This bird is in a net. A worker removes the bird carefully.
3. She puts the bird in a bag. Then she takes it to the lab.
4. A worker takes the bird out of the bag. He weighs the bird. He measures it too. He looks at the bird's feathers, muscles and fat.
5. The worker puts a metal band on the bird's leg. Each band has a number. The band is loose. It does not hurt the bird.
6. Then the worker lets the bird go.
