Punctuation
Purpose
Punctuation uses symbols to separate and give meaning to words in sentences. It shows where to pause, what words are quotations, and more.
How
Very beginning writers: Focus on the period so readers know where sentences end. Run-on sentences with no punctuation are very confusing for readers.
Informal writing:
- Period
- Commas
- Question marks
- Maybe quotation and exclamation marks
Formal writing: Know and use all the punctuation marks correctly.
