Alberta Routes: ESL Tutor Training

This workshop is for participants who are new to the role of Volunteer ESL Tutor. It will orient participants to their role, to the needs of their adult ESL learners, and to relevant materials available online. Participants will learn to design thematic or task based lessons that address learner interests and needs while providing language input, opportunities to practice language skills, and feedback.

Alberta Routes: Introduction to Teaching CLB 5 & CLB 6 Learners

This workshop is for participants who want to develop or enhance their ability to create lesson plans using the Canadian Language Benchmarks,  By the end of the workshop, participants will have ideas of the specific vocabulary, grammar, and strategies CLB 5 and CLB 6  learners require for all four skill areas and the basis for at least one activity for each skill.

Alberta Routes: Working with Trauma Affected ESL learners

This workshop is for instructors, tutors, and program staff who work with English language learners. In this workshop, participants will learn to define trauma and examine the ways it impacts individuals and the ESL learning environment. Participants will explore trauma-informed care and how they can support trauma-impacted learners. They will also learn and practise different calming techniques to use with learners.
